Ella - The butterfly godess
No One gets out alive (or NOGOA) was an incredibly challenging project I took on as primary asset artist and asset supervisor whilst working at UNIT.
we had to 3D concept and build a female deity monster that would have the appearance of a bride in a gown when standing up right, but was in fact hiding a huge hidden mouth underneath folds of skin, made to look like a gown.
She has legs, instead having two sets of arms, one human pair up front and another larger more monstrous set underneath that would walk a little more like the legs of a chicken. In addition to this she carried a huge sack on her back that in cased a pair of large wings.
Her design was based on Itzpapalotl, the obsidian butterfly goddess of Aztec culture.
"Ella" was an incredibly challenging build, layers of sub surfacing and multifunctioning body parts made her very hard to be two things at once, but we managed it with a continued back and forth with both the client and the original 2d concept artist. She was modelled in Maya and zbrush and textured in both mari and substance painter.
