Symbiote Jim
Jim was the first symbiote I was able to build for Venom: the last dance, and honestly, he is my favourite. I think its rare to see a superhero character that is not the typical 7 foot tall, built muscular perfectly toned kind of character, Jim was fun because he was short and overweight, and a direct reflection of his host character. We had already been supplied with great reference art for Jim from Sony, (although it was also done in house at ILM) but there was a need from the client to see something similar already in the comics, so we took a lot of the reference for this colour and style of a more dumpy character from a relatively unknown issue of "what if" by marvel, where the orange thing becomes infected with the venom symbiote. He had a similar colouring and the right body shape for our jim character so it became our go to reference. Jim was one of the few characters that needed more indepth sculptingĀ (most of the others were smooth enough that it was either negligable or they were handle purely in the textures. For Jim i was able to do a sculpt pass, and I was also able to create his go to weapon on choice, being a shield. This was sculpted and designed by me in Zbrush. He also had an additiona form where he split himself in two and was part of the giant "symbiote Ball" that appears in the third act of the film.
